Hola! My name is Arturo Ramirez, and I am the face of El Mero Mero Taqueria. I was born and raised in Mexico City where I grew up surrounded by all different types and flavours of Mexican food. Meeting friends at cantinas to eat and catch up, stopping by the street market for a late-night snack of tacos de birria with a buddy, and sitting down with family to enjoy a home cooked meal of enchiladas and mole, all helped to shape me and my love for food.
When I finished high school, I realized my biggest passion was food, so I enrolled in a culinary arts program in Mexico City. After completing the program, I had the opportunity to travel to Ontario, Canada in 2007 to put my new skills to work. Over the last 14 years I have been lucky enough to work in various different restaurant settings across Canada, as well as going back and working in Mexico City for a year, and have met a lot of amazing people that helped me to become a better chef and person.
In 2010 when I moved back to Mexico City for a year, my best friend, Lalo, and I opened up a taqueria together. It was my first business - we were young, we were ambitious, we had so much fun, we made a ton of mistakes, BUT we made amazing tacos. It was probably one of the coolest things I had ever done and really helped push me forward in my career goals. We knew the taqueria would be short lived, as I had plans to return to Canada after a year, but our taqueria sparked a big dream in me to open a Mexican food truck one day. Fast forward 10 years and El Mero Mero Taqueria is born!
In the last 10 years after returning to Canada I have worked with an incredible mentor and friend, Tim Gordon, who has provided me with countless opportunities to develop myself personally and professionally. He is one of my biggest supporters and with his partnership we were able to make El Mero Mero Taqueria a reality.
The El Mero Mero Taco Truck and Taco Bus will be on the streets serving Edmonton and surrounding areas, and our restaurant location is now open at 12223 156 Street NW!
